Wellbeing and Benefits

We make every effort possible to improve the quality of life of our employees and their families, promoting healthy lifestyles aimed at striking an adequate balance between personal, family and work life.

Service Quality Audit

In 2016, we continued to audit the quality of the services provided to employees at the units of Julcani, Orcopampa, Uchucchacua, Tambomayo, Mallay, La Zanja and Tantahuatay. The results have enabled us to implement immediate action plans aimed at improving infrastructure, equipment and fittings, and services such as meals (dining halls on the surface and inside the mines) hospitality, housing, locker rooms, laundry, restrooms, recreational areas, and more.

We also conducted two surveys on satisfaction with the food services and surprise inspections of the dining halls, in May and November, which helped us to improve the quality of the service and put together healthy, nutritional menus based on our employees’ tastes and preferences.

Mental Health Management: Specialized Psychological Support for Our Employees and Their Families

In the middle of the year, we recommenced our “Cuenta Conmigo” (“Count on Me”) Program, an initiative that provides psychological care and advice to the employees of Buenaventura’s companies and contractors, as well as their family members. A total of 145 cases were attended to, with the most common reasons for seeking help being family problems and stress. This program includes a confidential, toll-free and unlimited hotline, through which callers can talk to specialized clinical psychologists about personal and family issues.

In late 2016, this service was supplemented with the hiring of four clinical psychologists who were assigned to the La Zanja–Coimolache, Orcopampa, Uchucchacua and Tambomayo units.

Inclusion, Recreation and Culture

Joy and celebration are also a valuable element of our corporate culture. With this in mind, we have organized a range of activities on different holidays and special dates, including Secretaries’ Day, Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Peruvian Independence Day, Miners’ Day, the anniversary of each unit, Christmas, and New Year, among others. There has been no shortage of sporting events, employee lunches and dinners, productive vacations for employees’ little ones, and birthday celebrations. Courses were also offered in the cities of Huancayo and Arequipa on productive activities for our employees’ spouses.

Education

In 2016, we bolstered our employees’ knowledge of healthy habits and lifestyles with educational talks by nutritionists and social assistants. Additionally, two educational guides were put together: one on back care, and the other entitled “Keep Moving Healthfully.” Three educational pamphlets were also prepared on anger management, self-esteem, and sleep hygiene.
